Chencho Gyeltshen: Bhutan's Footballing Legend

Bhutan's Record Scorer on World Cup Qualifying Dreams

From Childhood Admiration to Footballing Trailblazer

Chencho Gyeltshen, born on May 10, 1996, is a Bhutanese footballing icon. As the captain of the Bhutan national team and the record goalscorer, he has transformed his boyhood admiration for the Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo into an extraordinary footballing career.

Gyeltshen's journey began in the picturesque valleys of Bhutan. Growing up, he idolized Ronaldo and spent countless hours practicing his skills on the local pitch. His passion for the game was evident from a young age, and his natural talent soon caught the attention of football scouts.

In 2013, Gyeltshen made his professional debut for Yeedzin FC. His remarkable performances quickly earned him a place in the Bhutan national team. And in 2015, he became the youngest player to score a goal for his country in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Throughout his career, Gyeltshen has consistently broken records and made history for Bhutanese football. In 2019, he became the first Bhutanese player to score a hat-trick in an international match. And in 2021, he led the Bhutan national team to their first-ever win in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Now, Gyeltshen is setting his sights on the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. He believes that Bhutan has the potential to make a mark on the world stage and is determined to inspire a new generation of Bhutanese footballers.
