1893: Gandhi's First Civil Disobedience Act

Mohandas Gandhi, later known as Mahatma Gandhi, was thrown off a first-class compartment of a train in Pretoria, South Africa, for refusing to move to a third-class compartment.

This incident marked the beginning of Gandhi's nonviolent civil disobedience movement in South Africa, which would later inspire his leadership of the Indian independence movement.

1991: Mount Pinatubo Erupts

Mount Pinatubo, a volcano located in the Philippines, erupted on June 15, 1991.

The eruption generated an ash column 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) high and released approximately 20 million tons of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere.

The volcanic ash and sulfur dioxide caused widespread damage to crops and infrastructure, and also led to a significant decrease in global temperatures.
